Cushions and OuterShell® & All-Weather Covers
Can I leave the cushions outside when it rains?
We've gone to great lengths to make our cushions as water resistant as possible, but nothing is foolproof. It's always best to bring them inside when it rains. The cushions will survive occasionally getting wet, but be sure to let them thoroughly dry afterwards. For more information, please view our completeCare & Maintenance Instructions.
What is the best way to clean the cushions?
If something spills on your Outer cushion, the best thing to do initially is to hose off the stain. For normal care, mix 2 ounces of a mild soap such as Woolite with a gallon of lukewarm water. Use a soft bristle brush to clean the fabric. Rinse thoroughly and air dry. For tougher stains, a mild bleach solution can be used. For more information, please view our completeCare & Maintenance Instructions.
Why do I need an All-Weather Cover if I have the OuterShell® cushion covers?
The OuterShell® covers are designed for daily protection of your cushions to keep them clean, dry, and ready to use. We recommend an All-Weather Cover if you live in climates that experience frequent rain, snow, wind, and other inclement weather conditions to further protect and extend the life of your entire Outer Sofa. The All-Weather Cover was created to eliminate the need to store your sofa in the off-season.

Where can I view your warranty policy?

* Open Box products are not covered by warranty.
Is the teak sustainably sourced?
Yes. All the teak used in our products is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®, the leading international authority on sustainable forest management. FSC certification is considered the “gold standard” for ethical production, meaning that the wood is sustainably harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, and economically viable.
Our teak comes from Central Java. For each tree we harvest, the farm plants three in its place. A single teak tree can absorb up to 10 kg of carbon annually to help offset climate change.
What role does sustainability play in your company’s overall strategic plan?
We think cradle to cradle for our product and its packaging, and consider the impact our furniture has on the planet at every step of the way.
During design, we carefully select materials that are durable. During manufacture, we look to repurpose existing materials and packaging so they can serve an unexpected purpose, add value, and bring joy to our customers. And, though everything we make is built to last, we ensure that our products are easy to recycle with your local waste management company at the end of their long lifespan.
Here’s a look at the specific sustainable features in our materials:
Wicker
People are behind every piece of furniture we make, not just machines. We appreciate craftsmanship; it takes years to achieve this level of excellence. We pay all our employees fair wages, offer health insurance, and create a safe and supportive working environment. Every chair purchased contributes to someone’s livelihood. Our synthetic All-Weather Wicker is made of a combination of high- and low-density polyethylene which is fully recyclable.
Teak
Our teak is sourced from responsibly managed teak fields in Central Java. For each tree we harvest, the farm plants three more in its place. A single teak tree can absorb 10kg of carbon every year, helping offset climate change.
Our Teak Collection is proudly Forest Stewardship Council® certified, the leading international authority on sustainable forest management. The FSC® certification guarantees that our teak wood is harvested from sustainably managed forests and that the harvested tree is either replaced or allowed to regenerate. A FSC® designation is considered the "gold standard" for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable.
Fabric
Our fabric is woven from solution dyed yarn that makes it highly resistant to UV light. Using this process means the fabric won’t fade and the issue of extra dye running off into the water supply is eliminated. It is finished with the same nano coating used in performance camping gear, making our fabric stain-resistant, water-resistant, and easily cleanable. It’s also fabric is also 100% recyclable at the end of its [long] lifespan.
We were originally planning on using Sunbrella but we decided to develop our own fabric, because Sunbrella is made with solution dyed acrylic. Acrylic falls into recycle code 7, which typically goes into a landfill. Our fabric is made with a recyclable material (polypropylene) and has the same performance characteristics so it’s the best material that you can use.
Rugs
We used recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) fibers to make our sustainable outdoor rugs, which is a win on multiple levels. PET is used to make plastic bottles and containers for a number of consumer products. We turned to this material because it gives plastics a second life, but also because it’s naturally stain-resistant, and, like our sofa, retains color and won’t fade in sunlight or after a harsh cleaning.
Are your products recyclable?
The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is that it depends on the waste management company in your area. We selected our palette using the International recycle codes and the materials that are the most common and easiest to recycle. We’ve learned over time that it takes all parts of the supply chain working in harmony to get a product that is easy to recycle actually recycled. While we do use the most common recycled materials, it comes down to the rules and regulations of each municipality.
We hope that our philosophy of using easy to recycle materials acts as a catalyst with small and large companies, manufacturers, lobbyists and non profits to enable change so that we can work towards a better future for our children and a gentler future for our planet.
Do you support sustainable groups?
5Gyres
The 5 Gyres Institute, for a planet free of plastic pollution, is a non-profit organization dedicated to researching the issue of plastics in the world's oceans, and engaging communities in systemic change. Our decision to partner with 5 Gyres was intentional, both from an ideological perspective and a practical one: we’re both based in California, and we specifically wanted to support a local organization.
One Tree Planted
One Tree Planted is on a mission to reforest our planet. With their program, one dollar plants one tree. With a promise to donate 1% of our revenue from the Teak Collection to their cause, we are thrilled in anticipation of the reforestation impact we, as a growing company, can make. We specifically chose to team up with One Tree Planted to aid in their reforestation efforts in Indonesia, where our teak is harvested.
What is FSC certification, and is your teak certified?
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certification sets the "gold standard" for responsibly managed wood from forests that are socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable. FSC® N003524.

Do any of the pieces in the Teak Seating and Coffee Table Collection require assembly?
Teak seating products come fully assembled. Your White Glove delivery team will simply need to unpack the items, arrange the pieces, affix the anti-slide Velcro strips, and optionally apply the connector clips. For coffee tables, the team will attach the legs using the supplied hardware and tooling.
Is there setup involved when I receive the aluminum seating?
You won’t find any screws or assembly instructions with our collection. Simply take it out of the box and add cushions--it’s that easy.

It’s simple. Your White Glove delivery team will attach the legs using our custom screws and the tool provided. From there, the chairs can be arranged and secured to one another with the Outer clips.
Is my Outer seating modular?
Yes. Arrange them in any configuration you like, and rearrange them periodically to give your space a fresh look. We provide optional blue clips (for All-Weather Wicker) and steel clips (for Teak and Aluminum) with each chair that attach under the frame to hold the chairs in place and add more stability to a specific configuration.
Aluminum Seating
How long will the aluminum last?
Our aluminum furniture is built to last. Crafted from durable powder-coated aluminum with precision welding and reinforced stress points, it is weather-resistant and will never rust, decay, or loosen over time. Additionally, our aluminum furniture comes with an industry-leading 10-year limited warranty for added peace of mind.
* Open Box products are not covered by warranty.
What specific type of aluminum is used?
We use a 6063 Aluminum, which is an alloy often used in architectural applications for its durability and pleasing aesthetic.
Why did we want to bring the aluminum frame to market?
Aluminum was a natural choice for our latest collection. It’s one of the easiest materials to recycle, and is virtually maintenance-free, making it both good for the planet and for outdoor living enthusiasts. In addition, the material is lightweight, durable, and stylish.
Is the aluminum furniture easy to move around?
It sure is. Our Aluminum Collection is made from extruded aluminum tubing that’s lightweight enough for a single person to move it around easily, but not so light it will blow away in inclement weather. An armless chair with cushions weighs only 32 pounds. The rectangular coffee table weights only 30 pounds.
Is there setup involved when I receive the aluminum seating?
You won’t find any screws or assembly instructions with our collection. Simply take it out of the box and add cushions--it’s that easy.
How do I clean the aluminum?
Cleaning our aluminum furniture is easy. For general cleaning, spray the aluminum with a garden hose to remove loose dirt and debris. For a deeper clean, use a soft sponge or lint-free rag, mild detergent, and warm water. Rinse thoroughly. Allow the aluminum to air dry before use or storage, preferably in filtered sunlight or partial shade rather than intense sun. For more details, refer to ourCare & Maintenance Page.
How hot does aluminum get compared to steel?
Aluminum doesn't heat up as quickly as steel when exposed to heat. This means that even on hot summer days, aluminum stays cooler and more comfortable to touch compared to steel.
Is the aluminum recyclable?
Absolutely. Aluminum is one of the easiest materials to recycle at the end of its long lifespan.
Teak Seating and Frames
How do I care for teak furniture?
Teak is easy to maintain. For regular cleaning, use a mild detergent mixed with water and a bristled brush. If you prefer deeper cleaning or want to preserve its original golden color, you can use a teak cleaner like Star Brite Teak Cleaner or Losso’s Teak Cleaner. For more details, refer to our Care & Maintenance Instructions.
Does teak furniture need to be treated?
No. Thanks to its natural durability and high oil content, teak doesn’t need to be sealed, treated, or stained. Over time, it will develop a silver-gray patina, which is purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect its strength or longevity. If you prefer to preserve your teak's original golden color, you can use a teak cleaner and brightener like Star Brite Teak Cleaner and brightener. For more details, refer to our Care & Maintenance Instructions.
Is your teak sustainably sourced and certified?
Yes. All teak used in our products is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC), the leading authority on sustainable forest management. FSC certification ensures the wood is harvested sustainably from responsibly managed, socially beneficial, and economically viable forests.
Our teak comes from Central Java, where for every tree harvested, three more are planted. A single teak tree can absorb up to 10 kg of carbon annually, helping offset climate change. FSC® N003524.
How do I clean teak oil from cushions and fabrics?
While the high oil content in Grade A teak makes it more durable and resilient, the oil can transfer to fabrics when exposed to high humidity or rain, particularly during the first few months.
Sofas and Chairs
When you receive your teak furniture, wipe down all surfaces of the teak, including underneath the frame or table, with soapy water prior to placing the new cushions on top. This will help prevent natural teak oil from staining the cushion fabric. To clean natural teak oil from cushion fabric, quickly combine equal parts dishwashing liquid and warm water on the stain and rinse thoroughly. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.
Dining Tables and Chairs
We recommend removing any chairs with fabric components (including our Teak Director’s Chairs) from underneath the Teak + Aluminum Dining Table for the first few rainfalls or until the furniture has started to patina.
How do you keep the cushions from sliding off the set?
Each piece within the Teak Seating Collection comes with an anti-slide velcro strip (or two in the case of the armless loveseat) that helps to prevent the cushions from sliding around when in use. This velcro strip is affixed to the slats of the frame and meets the factory-installed velcro strip on the bottom of the cushions.
All-Weather Wicker Seating
What is your wicker seating warranty?
The Outer wicker frame and the cast stainless steel legs are covered by an industry-leading 10-year warranty, while the cushions and All-Weather Wicker material have a 5-year limited warranty. Check out the full details on our Warranty Page.
* Open Box products are not covered by warranty.
What are the key features of the All-Weather Wicker?
Our frames are built with extruded aluminum tubing, but you will notice that our legs have a sleek tapered silhouette. This detail is what makes our design stand out from the rest. We do this by incorporating an additional step during manufacture called Swaging. Swedging is a forging process that involves the use of compressive forces to manipulate the shape, creating our tapered leg.
What should I do if I want to put my Wicker Sofa or Chairs on grass, turf, or gravel?
Outer offers complimentary Wicker Leg Stabilizer Caps to provide extra stability for furniture placed on uneven surfaces. Please reach out tocustomer serviceto receive your set, free of charge.
How is the All-Weather Wicker made?
Our All-Weather Wicker is handcrafted by skilled artisans, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in the finished product. Each aluminum frame is hand-welded to guarantee durability, with aesthetically clean bead welding. A master weaver assembles each chair with our synthetic wicker, which is made of a combination of high-density and low-density polyethylene.
What's the best way to clean the All-Weather Wicker frame?
A simple solution of mild soap and water will do the trick. For more information, please view our completeCare & Maintenance Instructions.
Ascent Adirondack
Does the chair require assembly?
Yes, but it only takes three easy steps to have it ready for you to relax in comfort.
What is the chair made of?
Our Adirondack chair is made from GRS-certified 100% post-consumer recycled UPE, or Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene. UPE shares the characteristics of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) but is extra resistant to environmental factors.
Is this product comfortable without the cushion?
Yes! The Ascent Adirondack Chair features a roomy seat and ergonomic design, making it incredibly comfortable even without the cushion.
Does the cushion slide around? How is the cushion secured? Will the cushion blow away? How heavy is it?
A fabric loop on the Ascent Adirondack Cushion with OuterShell® slides onto the back slats of the Adirondack Chair to hold it in place and prevent it from sliding around.
What should I do with the cushions in the off-season?
In the off-season, we recommend folding the OuterShell® cover over the cushion and securing it with the Velcro strip. Use the attached handle to easily carry the cushion inside and store it in a cool, dry place.
How is the Adirondack Cushion different from Outer’s modular seating cushion/OuterShell®?
The Ascent Adirondack Cushion combines the thoughtful functionality, comfort, and aesthetic of Outer’s modular seating cushions into a streamlined, lightweight cushion that incorporates both the cushion and OuterShell® into one product.

Pulling on the handle located on the side of the chaise controls the amount of "push" from the pressurized gas, enabling you to lower or lift the backrest to your desired position.
Does the Infinity Chaise™ come with a specific tool to tighten the sling?
A specific tool is not included. However, any metric 10mm socket wrench will work. We recommend a T-handle socket wrench for ease of tightening.
How long does the sling usually last?
We offer an industry-leading 5-year warranty on our sling. Additionally, with the patent-pending sling-tightening innovation and the ability to fully replace the sling, you can enjoy your Infinity Chaise™ Lounge for years to come while also contributing to environmental sustainability.
* Open Box products are not covered by warranty.
How is the sling tightened?
Our patent-pending sling-tensioning technology allows you to periodically retighten the sling, rejuvenating the chaise's comfort. Attached to both side edges of the sling are gripping rods, hidden within the chaise frame. Each rod is movable up and down, and pulling either rod down within the frame causes the sling to tighten, similar to tightening a guitar string. Rotating the bolts connected to each rod, accessible under the chaise frame, tightens the sling. Additionally, removing all the bolts allows the sling and rods to be slid out from the frame and replaced if needed.
A specific tool is not included, however, any metric 10mm socket wrench will work. We recommend a T-handle socket wrench for ease of tightening. Please do not use a power tool to tighten the sling as there is a high risk of over-torquing and stripping the threaded insert. Using a power tool may void the warranty.
Where can I purchase replacement slings?
Replacement slings can be purchased here.
Can I use a power tool to tighten the sling?
Avoid using a power tool to tighten the sling. It poses a high risk of over-torquing and stripping the threaded insert, and it may void the warranty.

Marine-Grade Umbrellas
Is the Umbrella wind-resistant?
Our marine-grade aluminum umbrellas have been tested successfully in extreme weather and winds up to 38 MPH. However, we strongly recommend that you always close the umbrella when not in use, or when sustained winds exceed 25 MPH.
Will the Outer Marine Grade Aluminum Umbrella work with my table?
Outer umbrellas require clearance from the ground to close so please measure your table's height accordingly. The Round Umbrella will close over tables up to 33" tall; the Square Umbrella will close over tables up to 19" tall. Please note only the Round Umbrella will work with Outer's Teak & Aluminum fixed-length dining table.
Should I close my umbrella when it's not in use?
It is advisable to close all umbrellas when they are not in use, and to close and secure your umbrella during adverse weather conditions.
Do I have to use the belt each day?
We recommend that the belt be used whenever the canopy is in the closed position. This will prevent a strong wind from opening the umbrella and potentially causing damage.
Can I just use the mast-pin, or just the cam-cleat, or do I have to use both?
While the cam-cleat is strong enough to hold the umbrella open on its own, we recommend using it with a mast-pin for utmost safety when the umbrella is in the open position. The mast-pin, however, can be used on its own should you choose.
How can I clean the canopy?
The best way to clean an umbrella is simply using soap, water and a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush. The umbrella may have to be removed from the base and partially opened to access the top area of the canopy during washing.
See our Care & Maintenance page for all the details.
Should I close the canopy when it's wet?
No. Always allow the canopy to dry before closing, or there grows a risk for mold and mildew to form, which can stain the canopy over time.
What does "marine grade" mean?
The difference between Outer’s marine grade aluminum coating and normal grade is primarily the thickness of the oxide film penetration. Outer’s Marine Grade Umbrellas are equipped with thicker oxide film penetration and are backed by a 5 year warranty.
* Open Box products are not covered by warranty.
How do you open the umbrella?
Once the Outer umbrella is secured to the base, locate the cord under the closed canopy and pull firmly away from the mast. Continue pulling the cord lightly, while being cautious of the now opening canopy until it is fully deployed. Once fully open, simply guide the cord into the cam-cleats, which will hold the umbrella open. Finally, insert the provided mast-pin into the hole located in the mast just below the hub.

Where can I install my Fire Pit Table?
The Fire Pit Table should be installed by a qualified service professional and must be installed outside, on a flat, stable surface away from any combustible materials, and at least 4 feet (48 in.) away from any building structure or plants. The unit should not be installed on dirt or grass. A concrete or slate patio surface is ideal, but the unit may be installed on a wooden deck.
Be sure to install the Fire Pit Table outside in a fully vented area with no overhang or trees within 6 feet (72 in.) above the unit. The Fire Pit Table creates a controlled open-flame, so use common sense when positioning. The Fire Pit Table needs to “breathe” during operation and pulls air in through vents located along the bottom edge. Avoid placing anything up against the sides of the unit that could block air to these vents.
Is the Concrete Fire Pit Table heavy?
The Fire Pit Table is composed of relatively lightweight Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) with a metal frame. The Rectangular table weighs approximately 165 lbs, and the Round table weighs approximately 126 lbs. At least two people are needed to move the product.
Can any fire media/materials be used with the Fire Pit Table?
Outer recommends using the ceramic spheres that come with the Fire Pit Table because they help stabilize the flame from wind, and radiate and distribute the heat generated from the flame outwards. However, the burner pan of this Fire Pit Table is designed to use any of a variety of aftermarket media, including lava stones, lava granules, fire glass, and ceramic spheres.
How do I set up my Fire Pit Table?
Follow along with [this instructional video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pih-eB3qYvs) that will guide you through setting up and operating your Fire Pit Table in 10 easy steps.
Can a longer hose be used to connect my propane tank to the Fire Pit Table?
An aftermarket longer gas hose may be purchased separately to allow for more distance between the propane tank and the base of the unit.
Will the ceramic spheres change in appearance over time?
Propane gas can produce small amounts of carbon (soot) when burned. This soot can accumulate on the surfaces of the ceramic spheres over time and occasionally flake off, which is normal. Soot can easily be removed by rinsing with water.
How many BTUs does the Fire Pit Table provide?
The Rectangular and Round Fire Pit Tables provide 55,000 BTUs. The Square Fire Pit Table provides 45,000 BTUs. Enough to warm up a larger area.
The Flex Collection
Is this product comfortable without the cushion?
Yes! The seating, even without the cushions, is incredibly comfortable thanks to Outer’s flexible, twisted weave All-Weather Wicker, which provides the perfect balance of sink and support for ultimate relaxation.
How is the Flex Collection wicker different from the All-Weather Wicker?
The wicker used for the Flex Collection is a 5 mm twisted round core wicker. Its distinct double-closed weave pattern sets it apart from our other collections.
Does the cushion slide around? How is the seat cushion secured?
The back cushion is secured by an attached weighted bar that drops down behind the back of the chair. Thanks to this weighted bar and the natural friction created by the wicker weave, the cushion stays securely in place when seated. As for the seat cushion, it simply rests on the seat. When not in use, the back cushion can be folded over the seat cushion and secured with integrated hook and loop fasteners.
Is assembly required?
No assembly is required for this piece, so you can start enjoying it right away!
Will the cushions blow away? How heavy are they?
When the OuterFlex™ Cushion is folded over and covered with the OuterShell®, it's securely held in place by the connected weighted bar making it able to withstand winds up to 60 mph.
Are the OuterFlex™ Cushions comfortable?
Yes! The 40D (density), 35mm thick, quick-dry foam is lightweight yet comfy and supportive.
What is the weight limit of the Flex Loveseat and Armchair?
The Loveseat holds up to 400 lbs and the Armchair holds up to 350 lbs.
What should I do with the cushions in the off-season?
In the off-season, we suggest folding over the OuterShell® and securing it to the Velcro strip. Using the attached handle, simply carry it inside to a cool, dry place for storage.
How is the OuterFlex™ Cushion different from Outer’s modular seating cushion/OuterShell®?
The OuterFlex™ Cushion takes the thoughtful functionality, amazing comfort, and beautiful aesthetic of Outer’s modular seating cushions and compacts all of these features into a streamlined, light-weight cushion, which incorporates both the cushion and OuterShell® into one product.

The Allergy/Skin Sensitization Test was conducted, and Insect Shield was awarded the following Quality Labels: “Hypoallergenic” and “No Allergy Potential.”
Can Insect Shield® products be used around pets?
Insect Shield technology is used in a wide assortment of pet products including beds, blankets, cots, gaiters, bandanas, and apparel items. While permethrin has been known to be harmful to cats in liquid form, Insect Shield repellency is so tightly bound to the fabric fibers in such minimal amounts that it does not pose a risk to cats, or when used in multi-pet households.
What are the benefits of Insect Shield® vs. other forms of insect protection?

Which insects does Insect Shield® repel?
Insect Shield Repellent Apparel has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, and biting flies. Insect Shield Repellent Gear has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and biting flies. The EPA requires extensive effectiveness data to prove a product's ability to repel insects. Many species and varieties of these insects have been tested, including many that can carry dangerous diseases.
What are the blankets made out of?
100% Recycled Polyester.
How do you care for Insect Shield® products?
For items that can be washed, normal home laundering is recommended. Insect Shield repellent apparel can be bleached, starched, pressed, etc., without adverse effect on the repellent quality; however, it should not be dry-cleaned.
Why can't these be dry cleaned?
Dry cleaning removes some of the active ingredient, reducing the insect-repellent quality of the fabric.

The OuterWeave® Outdoor Throw Pillows are designed to feel full while maintaining an ideal balance of sink and support. The inserts are intentionally slightly larger than the covers to offer that plush and "over-stuffed" look and feel.
Which throw pillows should I purchase for my sofa and how many?
Size and quantity vary greatly depending on preference. We recommend ordering throw pillows in odd numbers. For example: one throw pillow for single chairs and three, five, or seven for sofas or sectionals. We also recommend layering for an inviting look. Start with large pillows in either corner, and layer in smaller pillows and alternate shapes.

How do I clean my rug?
To keep your all-weather rug looking its best, try to occasionally vacuum it to keep dirt from settling deep beneath the fibers. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.
Is the rug safe to put on top of all surfaces?
Yes. The 1188 Eco-Friendly Outdoor Rug is safe to place on top of any surface without fear of damage.
Are there any harmful coatings or chemicals used to create the rug?
No. The 1188 Eco-Friendly Outdoor Rug is completely free of any harmful chemicals or coatings.
Can I leave my rug out in any weather condition?
Although indoor/outdoor rugs are totally synthetic and mold can’t grow on its fibers, mold can grow on the soil and moisture trapped inside of the rug. If the rug is wet from multiple days of dew, rain, or pool parties, simply hang it over a fence or drape it over a clothing line to dry it out. This will help prolong your rug’s life, and your deck’s too. If possible, it’s a good idea to store your furniture at the end of the season.
